Everybody is new...
...at some point, and that first little bit can be awkward. Who are these people? What do they laugh about? Do they like stuff I like? Do they believe what I believe? Can I settle in with them? Don't worry. We won't need liquid courage.
If you're an incoming freshman we know that Ohio State feels huge-mongous at first, but give it a few weeks and it'll start to feel smaller as you get to know some friends and learn your way around.
We meet throughout the semester to serve, learn, do fun stuff, support each other, talk about life, and eat meals together. Sometimes these things happen with just a few people, and other times it's everyone who is part of SCF.
FEAST is when we meet up on Tuesday nights at 7:00 for worshiping God, learning from the Bible, and connecting with new and old friends (and sometimes there's dinner before). We have Feast each Tuesday night of the semester on campus (locations TBA).
Other Gatherings may include bonfires, OSU/ Columbus sporting events, Skyzone (a big 'ol trampoline), canoeing, Pancake Night, picnics, and German Village excursions. We go on a retreat during the spring.
Groups are for being together each week for prayer and talking about the Bible, our lives, and faith. In Fall 2018 different Groups will meet on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
Teams are for doing things that bless others. At least 4 Teams are forming this fall. Through Worthington Christian Village a team will serve elderly folks. Through Start House a different Team will serve youth experiencing homelessness. And, through Lifeline Christian Mission we'll serve Haitians by sorting food that will be sent to them. The fourth Team will focus on Prayer for Ohio State, the world, and SCF.
Conversations are valuable. Sometimes more than 3 people feels like a large group. We like to have conversations (sometimes over coffee, sometimes not) about life, culture, faith, the Bible, and stuff we enjoy nerding out about.
This is what we've all come to Ohio State to do. There's more to it than learning in the classroom though. We desire to learn from Jesus while we're here. We've learned from a lot of people about how to live, but Jesus is the one we need to learn from most.
We associate love with Jesus. We need grace from Him, and others need grace from us. Forgiveness. Blessing. Care. Compassion. Encouragement. Sacrifice. Life-giving. It's a type of death, harder than we want it to be as Jesus frees us from the tangles of pride and self-centered living to reflect his love into this world.
You'll hear about leadership all over Ohio State. At SCF we want to create good visions for the world and move toward them. We influence each other in the ways of Jesus and invite others to follow after Jesus as servants. Toward freedom. Toward life. Influence. Guide. Show the way. Prompt. Move. Create.
